Lesjöfors celebrates 350 years of industrial innovation

This year, the Lesjöfors Group marks an extraordinary milestone, 350 years of continuous innovation, craftsmanship, and contribution to global industry.

What began in 1675 as a small iron mill on the banks of a Swedish river has evolved into a global leader in precision-engineered springs, pressings and critical components, with operations spanning more than 50 sites across 20+ countries.

Jakob Lindquist, Vice President of Lesjӧfors Nordics says: “For us, this anniversary is more than just a celebration of longevity. It’s a tribute to the people behind the progress. From our founding teams in Sweden to our newest colleagues in India, France, UK and the United States, our people have always been at our heart, and it is them we must thank for making Lesjӧfors one of the world’s most enduring industrial companies.”

From forge to future

The Lesjöfors journey is one of reinvention and resilience – a story woven through centuries of industrial change:

  • 1675 – Lesjöfors is founded with a royal decree to build an iron hammer.
  • 1853 – Its springs power Sweden’s first steam locomotive.
  • 1925-1950s – Led by Baron Gerard De Geer, Lesjöfors invests in electrification, modernisation and global growth, demonstrating resilience during the Great Depression by exporting wire rope to the United States.
  • 1980s–2000s – Employee ownership and acquisition by Beijer Alma define a period of transformation.
  • 2002–2016 – Growth accelerates through expansion into Asia, the UK, and North America, and entry into medical markets.
  • 2023–2025 – Lesjöfors becomes the first spring manufacturer to commit to Science Based Targets (SBTi), expands further into India, France, and the UK, and launches an online shop offering the widest range of stock springs.

Powering progress across industries

Today, Lesjöfors components are vital yet often unseen – quietly essential in everything from automotive and aerospace to agriculture, defense, medical devices, electronics, and energy supply.

Mikael Andersson, Vice President of Lesjӧfors Asia comments: “Our legacy is built not only on product excellence but on a deep-rooted commitment to people – whether that’s our teams or our customers. It is these relationships that has resulted in strategies that have shaped the company, solved our biggest challenges, and led us into new industries and markets. Our future focus is on even smarter systems, stronger sustainability values, and further empowerment of our decentralized global teams.”

Honouring legacy champions

As part of the 350th celebration, Lesjöfors is recognising its ‘Legacy Champions’. Christofer Hedvall, Vice President of Lesjӧfors Europe adds: “With 350 years behind us, we have the most incredible archive of memories and committed team members who have contributed many decades of service – with some colleagues multi-generational across multiple decades. It is these individuals who have helped shape the DNA of Lesjöfors and our group of companies.”

Reflection and celebration

Lesjöfors is celebrating this historic milestone with special events, internal recognitions, and global reflections on its journey. A newly launched 350th anniversary landing page features stories, timelines, and tributes to the people who’ve helped build and sustain one of the world’s longest-standing engineering companies.

Johan Wall, Chairman of the Board of Beijer Alma, the parent company of Lesjӧfors concludes: “When Beijer Alma acquired Lesjӧfors in 1989, we were laying the foundation for an ambitious acquisition-driven growth strategy across Scandinavia and beyond. It’s a privilege to have been a part of this successful journey and to see Lesjӧfors continue to power progress through precision, innovation, and sustainability. Here’s to 350 more years and beyond.”
