Glass bottle with spring clip

Lesjöfors develops bespoke spring for sustainable beauty brand

As sustainability continues to shape the packaging landscape, the Lesjöfors Group has supported a beauty and wellness brand based in the Scottish Highlands in the UK, with the development of a packaging solution that aligns with a plastic-free ethos.

The project was led by Lesjofors’ UK-based subsidiary, European Springs & Pressings, who collaborated closely with the beauty brand, Pellimont, to design a bespoke spring clip system for the brand’s glass apothecary jars – creating a practical, sustainable, and visually distinctive closure solution.

A challenge in sustainable packaging

Pellimont known for its minimalist, skin-sensitive products and environmental values, was looking to eliminate plastic from its packaging while also encouraging consumers to reuse their glass jars.

Their existing solution lacked the durability and reusability needed to support this vision -prompting them to seek an alternative that was both functional and fully aligned with their sustainability principles.

Inspiration from a like-minded brand

Pellimont’s search led them to Tinkture, another sustainability-focused brand that had previously partnered with European Springs & Pressings. Tinkture’s apothecary bottles featured a distinctive spring clip closure, designed and engineered by the team at European Springs, which caught Pellimont’s attention for its simplicity and eco-conscious design.

Collaborative design

The team at European Springs worked closely with Pellimont throughout the onboarding process and after initial consultations, two sample clip designs were supplied for testing.

The collaborative development process ensured the clips were both a technical and aesthetic fit for the apothecary-style jars and the final spring clips are now an integral part of Pellimont’s packaging strategy – securing the jars during transit while also making them easy to reuse for refills and home storage.

Customer & sustainability positivity

The new closure system has received positive feedback from Pellimont’s customers, who value the enhanced unboxing experience and the practical opportunity to reduce waste.

In Pellimont’s own words: “I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the service from European Springs & Pressings. From the outset, they understood our vision of creating bespoke clips that not only protect our jars during transit, but also support their long-term reuse. The final clips are beautifully engineered, enhancing both the practicality and sustainability of our packaging.”
