Background
The customer used a design which demanded ten disc springs per product. They manufactured a total of 10,000 units per year ( = 100,000 disc springs).
Action
Lesjöfors calculated this and offered a suggestion which meant that ten disc springs were replaced by one tapered compression spring.
Improvement
The customer saved 244,000 SEK a year, just on the purchase price. Add to this a reduction in weight and simplified installation. Several auxiliary components which were needed to get the stack of disc springs to work could be completely omitted.
